Pee Wee A’s Play in Alexandria Tournament

 

The Zero Variance Pee Wee A’s played in an eight team tournament in Alexandria against tough competition.  The Fergus Team begin their tournament action Friday against a Grand Fork’s Team that was huge in size and had a very deep bench. In the first period, Fergus Falls held Grand Forks to one goal.  Campbell Cichosz drove wide and buried one top shelf for the Fergus Fall’s Team. The first period ended with a 1 to 1 tie.  Fergus fought hard through half of the second period before Grand Forks started to pull away.  The Fergus Team found themselves down 4 to 1 at the end of the second.  The Grand Fork’s Team continued their run to beat Fergus Falls with a final score of 9 to 1. The Grand Fork’s Team would continue to dominate and ended up in the Championship game against Alexandria.  Goalie, Scott VanVoorhis, was kept busy and faced a total of 49 shots on goal.  Fergus played Sartell on Saturday for their second game.  Chance Fazio worked his magic as he centered a pass to his line mate. Noah Tarczon kept the magic going as he made a move on the Sartell goalie. As the goalie went down, Tarczon flipped the puck over the goalie’s head to net one for the Fergus Team.  Campbell Cichosz put a shot on goal and Isaac Young stuffed in the rebound to put Fergus up 2 to 1 after the first period. Despite matching Sartell almost shot for shot in the second period, Sartell managed to put three goals in the Fergus net. Although Fergus was down 4 to 2 going into the third period, they continued to fight.  The Fergus Team continued to shoot but couldn’t find the back of the net.  Sartell came out on top with a score of 5 to 2.  VanVoorhis faced 23 shots on goal. Wayzata was next on the list for the Fergus Team.  Fazio netted the first goal for Fergus off a pass from Tarczon.  Cichosz intercepted a pass from Sartell’s defense and slid one past their goalie to put Fergus up 2 to 1.  Goalie VanVoorhis thrilled the Fergus crowd when he stonewalled Sartell during a penalty shot. Fergus held the 2 to 1 lead going into the second.  Cichosz sniped one to stretch the lead by two goals.  Later in the second period, Fazio buried the biscuit off a pass from Tarczon.  Fergus led 4 to 3 at the end of the second.  It was all Sartell in the third period as they scored two unanswered goals to sneak past Fergus with a 5 to 4 victory.  Goalie VanVoorhis faced 22 total shots.  Sunday’s game found Fergus paired against Detroit Lakes.  This rivalry match proved to be exciting.  Detroit Lakes scored first.  Fergus responded with Cichosz creating a breakaway to net one top shelf against the Detroit Lake’s  goalie.  Both teams continued to battle back and forth putting shots on net.  Goalie VanVoorhis kept Fergus in the game as he stopped one bullet after another. Cichosz netted another top shelf goal in the third period to put the Fergus Team up 2 to 1.  The Fergus Team was fired up and found another gear.  Each line stepped up to match the attack that Detroit Lakes was mounting. The Fergus Defense of Danner, Cichosz, and Peterson remained solid. Cichosz scored another breakaway goal to round out his hat trick.  Goalie VanVoorhis stopped almost 50 shots to lead Fergus to a 3 to 1 victory over Detroit Lakes.  Fergus finished seventh overall in tournament play.
